If your Tioman ferry is delayed or cancelled, first confirm the operator's update, then tell TDB how it affects your arrival. Do not assume your dive package has automatically moved to the next day, or that buying another ferry ticket secures a revised room and activity schedule.
The useful task is to reconnect three pieces of the trip: transport to the island, your accommodation dates and your booked diving or course. They may involve different providers and different change conditions.
1. Confirm What Has Actually Changed
Check the message from your ferry operator or ticket seller. Is the sailing delayed, rescheduled to a different departure time, moved to another terminal, or cancelled? A social media comment about someone else's sailing may not apply to yours.
Keep a screenshot or copy showing the operator, travel date, affected sailing and the change notice. Note the time of the latest update. If no replacement is confirmed, say that clearly when contacting TDB rather than giving a guessed arrival time.
Use the contact details on your ticket for booking-specific help. Cataferry's Official Website provides a current sailing search and notes that schedules depend on tides. An old screenshot is not a reliable substitute for the operator's current instructions.
2. Send TDB One Complete Update
Use the TDB Contact Page or your existing booking conversation. Include the details below so the team can identify the affected reservation without repeated questions:
- Booking reference and lead guest name.
- Original arrival and departure dates.
- Number of guests affected.
- Ferry operator, mainland terminal and original sailing time.
- The confirmed change notice or a statement that an alternative is not yet known.
- Any alternative you are considering, clearly marked as a proposal.
For example: “Our ferry for [date/time] has been cancelled. Booking [reference], [guest count] guests. The operator is offering [alternative], which we have not confirmed yet. Can you check whether our accommodation and booked activities can accommodate that arrival?”
3. Ask About The Whole Booking
A later ferry on the same date and a ferry the following morning can have very different consequences. Ask what happens to the arrival arrangements, room stay and first booked activity. For a course, also ask whether the revised timing still leaves enough time for the planned training.
Do not promise travelling companions that missed activities will simply be squeezed into the remaining days. Conditions, staff arrangements, room availability and the type of package all matter. Request a written response covering what is possible and any change in the amount payable before agreeing to a replacement plan.
If only part of the group is delayed, identify exactly who is affected. Changing the number of people travelling can also change the room arrangement, so the group leader should not silently edit a passenger list and assume the accommodation remains suitable.
4. Keep Refunds And Date Changes Separate
TDB's Cancellation And Refund Policy states that a ferry disruption alone does not confirm a package refund or a new arrival date. Changes after payment require TDB's written confirmation, and applicable date changes remain subject to availability and coordination.
A request is therefore different from an approval. Ask which terms apply to your particular reservation and keep the response. If you purchased through another seller, contact that seller about its booking process as well. Avoid treating the ferry operator's response as a decision about the separate dive package.
The operator's own ticket terms govern its handling of the ferry booking. If considering an insurance claim, check your policy and ask your insurer what evidence it requires; coverage and eligibility depend on the policy and circumstances.
5. Confirm The Revised Journey Before Setting Off
Once a workable arrangement is agreed, save the new ferry confirmation and TDB's written response together. Check the terminal, island arrival point and reporting instructions again. TDB's Getting To Tioman Guide is useful for orienting the journey, while the ticket remains your reference for the actual sailing.
Tell the other travellers which details have changed. Give one person responsibility for sending subsequent updates so TDB does not receive several contradictory arrival estimates from the same group.
If You Are Still Waiting For An Answer
Keep the difference between confirmed information and possible alternatives clear. Do not buy a second non-changeable arrangement solely because it appears available, and do not make your own assumption that a booking is cancelled. Ask for the next update time where possible, remain reachable and keep the original documents.
The aim is a confirmed plan that connects transport, accommodation and activities—not merely a new ferry ticket.
Useful Operator Reference
For Cataferry bookings, read the operator's Official Terms And Conditions alongside your ticket. Use the terms belonging to your actual operator and seller if you travelled with another company.
